“If we really want to love we must learn how to forgive.”
~ Blessed Theresa of Calcutta
I paint in my mind the word Forgive
across our dining room wall
a thousand times, one
time, hugely –
only I’m the only one who can see it.
When I live it
those letters will appear
not along our light cream walls
but across the breadth of our hearts.
When my sojourn through this time and space
is called to an end, my triune God will not ask me,
“Why were you not Moses or Mother Teresa?”
Nor will I be asked,
“Why were you not more like your mother, or your sister?”
I will not even be asked,
“Why were you not your neighbor, or your friend?”
I will be asked,
“Why were you not Amy?”
