Learning the unseen

Standard

“My brothers, you will always have your trials but, when they come, try to treat them as a happy privilege; you understand that your faith is only put to the test to make you patient, but patience too is to have its practical results so that you will become fully-developed, complete, with nothing missing.” ~James 1:2-4

Learning the unseen

Learning the unseen
is scaling mountains

without ropes or harness.

Climbing toward love’s peak,
rocks clacking over rock,

I slip.

Peering skyward from the ground,
wondering what is beyond the clouds

my hands set back on the rock.

for the catching hold.

She skips
fluttering through
the freshly mown grass

her arms floating
through the purple-
blue night air;

the fireflies sparkle
above and beside her
so she sings to them

in her own voice
soft and high,
the angels’ gloria,

praise
and joy
in an effortless beatific vision.

She catches not one
and not one lands
upon her,

but upon us fall
innocence and beginning
sparkling, floating,

fluttering and manifesting
love for the grasping,
for the catching hold.

Living Beautifully

Standard

“Joy is very infectious. We will never know just how much good a simple smile can do. Be faithful in little things. Smile at one another. We must live beautifully.” ~Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

It is difficult to find
smiles in the chaos
and wildness
of whirling family life

and yet, here they come
popping out of nothing,
sparks in the fullness
of time.
