again.

Shifting Focus
The iced trees still reach skyward,
their sheathed branches waiting,
the crystal water sparkling like
a million earth-bound stars,
so many miniature spheres of fire

The thing that covers us in grief,
ashen and blank,
covers us golden.
God beyond God

I stand at the sink
scrubbing the shiny steel pan
when my littlest one asks me to read.
I ask for his patience,
one, two, three times, and

her face, she is beautiful.
Her heart is love.”
And then I know
the vast and mighty love
that pours itself from the smallest vessels.
