Arcing Horizon

When we drive
our repetitive routes through town,
my littlest shares her thoughts,

“When I see far-away
I think of Grandma
and is that Grandma’s house…?”

I look over the pavement,
the fields, to the conifer-covered hills
and think, I am on a hill far away, too.

I love “see far-away…” Wonderful. Out of the mouths of babes we receive great wisdom!! I love the simplicity but depth of this piece: the honesty of “I am on a hill far away, too.” This resonates and stays with me a long while. There are layers to this piece that I love. There is a stillness that contrasts so well with the movement of the driving. Nice. Again, your experiences with your little ones are beautiful and deep. So thankful and enriched to read your poems….love and light your way!

Thank you for your careful reading, Cynthia. Your observations are insightful! I, too, felt the multi-layered depth of this piece, and the movement and stillness. These things just happened. It was a time when I allowed the poem to come into its being; rather than controlling it and manipulating it, I tried my best to be its best vehicle. I’m so thankful for your reading. It keeps me going!!!
