Children

It’s God’s work.
I don’t know what I’m doing.
They thrive, and the sun shines
through the windows
of my striving.

I am so happy to see this post!! Missed your writing so much!! This is a powerful little piece. It is condensed in just the right way for the message to pop! A haiku punch so to say. I love the short line opening the piece and its weightiness. Great! Then I love the “I don’t know what I’m doing.” I can hear your voice in this; your humbleness and honesty. The thriving children and the sun shining through the window of your striving is amazing…it speaks of the mystery of motherhood and the daunting task of “rearing, raising” children and how they thrive by God’s light and will through us/windows. I love the line breaks and what is not included in the poem. It bears its meaning/presence/mystery and contemplation well. Great work here Amy!!!

Wow. I am humbled by your reading and comments. Thank you so much. It is true, all the mystery of this family life and children and God using us as negative space where the light shines through. All disguised blessings!. There is much “not said” in this piece…. your astute reading is a joy!
