Yoga Updates

Greetings Fellow Yogis,

This week we are on a break between Winter sessions with classes resuming the week of March 5th and finishing with week of Mar 19th.  Check out the Current Class Schedule for details.

I’m currently working on the Spring Schedule (with the welcome addition of Chair Yoga) and will post it soon.  Spring classes will begin the week of April 16th, with Benefit Classes being held April 9th and 12th.

In the meantime, I encourage you to hop on your mat for a happy home practice.  Resist the urge to pressure yourself into practicing for a full 60 or 90 minutes.  Start small.  Really small.  Shoot for 5 minutes and see how you feel. You might find that’s just the right amount, or, that you’d really love to do more.  Remember that the length of the practice isn’t the most important thing.  What matters is the quality of your practice, and whether or not you’re enjoying it.

You can move and breathe the way we do in class, check-in with your favorite online yoga teachers, or get creative and listen to your body, making up your own sequence of poses, breathing practices, and meditation.

I know how difficult it can be to practice at home (believe me), but there really is a joy to it.  Keep it light and simple.  Laugh when you’re interrupted (all fourteen times), and try not to take it all so seriously.

Be well, Be well, Be well.

Happy Practicing!

Winter Update ~ Yoga Practice with Amy Secrist

Greetings, Yoga Friends,

Here’s an update on inclement weather cancellations, class schedule information, and gratitude:

Thank you to all who practiced and donated during our session-opening Yoga for Life Benefit classes.  Resurrection Parish and Richland Pregnancy Services are grateful for your support, and so am I!

Today begins the first 6-week session of our 2018 Winter Yoga Practice.

Power Yoga Practice will meet this evening, Monday, January 15th, at 7:00pm, weather permitting.  (See below for ways you can find out if classes are cancelled.)

Gentle Yoga will begin Thursday, January 18th, at 9:30am.

Saturday early morning Power Yoga Practice will meet beginning January 20th at 7:00am.

Visit the current yoga class schedule for full details.

Inclement weather may present the need for class cancellations.  Up to this point, I’ve been posting class cancellations on my website through which you would receive an email announcement.  Moving forward, however, I will create a new “Class Cancellations” page that you may access by visiting the website directly and selecting it from the menu.  This way, extra emails will not be cluttering up your inbox.   I’ve also set up a text notification system for those of you who would appreciate a direct message.  You are still welcome to email me using the contact form or using contact@thecatholicyogi.com to inquire about class.  But, if you’d like to receive text notifications, consider signing up for remind101.  Here’s how you do it:

Enter this number:  81010

Text this message:  @yogapr

After signing up, you’ll be notified of class cancellations via text message through the remind101 app which keeps all phone numbers private.

Thank you for your continued interest in Yoga, and feel free to share this update with anyone who might benefit.

Happy Practicing!

Cancelling Jan. 13th Yoga for Veterans Class

Good Morning Local Yogis,

Due to the Richland county level 1 snow emergency, Yoga for Veterans class will be cancelled for January 13th.

Here’s a great opportunity to try out practicing at home.  It might seem odd, awkward, or even boring at first, not having a roomful of people at your side; however, there are lots of perks to a home practice, most notably, being able to do whatever warm-ups, postures, and sequences you like!

Sometimes it’s hard to get started, so it’s nice to have resources.  Please visit veteransyogaproject.com and check out their Practice Library.  You’ll then have access to videos for breathing practices, mindful movement, meditation, guided rest, and gratitude.

See you next time, and keep practicing, even if it’s only for 5 minutes.  And especially if you don’t really feel like getting on your mat.  You’ll feel better for it.

Many Blessings,

The Catholic Yogi
